How do you get a name like Spotted Ass Ranch?!
This has been asked more than once!! So here goes…………….
The Spotted Ass Ranch is a gem, located on the edge of the small town of Plentywood, MT, population approx 1800, it is small in acreage and has an out of the way feel like no other. The ranch itself is located “Up North” of our town, up north in our county, up north in the state, and up north in the nation, thus our registered brand is UN bar as a nod to the location of the ranch.
Owned by the Zeidler family since 1969, the small ranch was used as a hobby donkey ranch for years, as well as a home for the family horses. Local kids from over the years, have told us different stories about their time playing there and catching frogs in the creek. It is fun to hear about what went on there before we lived there. Wynne’s Grandpa, Barr Zeidler was one of the original card carrying Spotted Ass members, and therefore he must own a few!! Notably it is the only breed of animal that Montana has “created” as a registered breed. It still continues to this day as the American Council of Spotted Asses, we actually still have his original brass membership card and have our own guardian Spotted Ass donkey, Chip, whom is registered in the ACSA.
Our ranch is well known by this quaint community, and we would like it to also be known beyond that! Plentywood is unique in many ways, it is a gateway to Canada, a hunting mecca, and has amazing dry land agriculture. Along with everything wonderful that Montana has to offer, we also appreciate the clean skies, open prairie, vast ranch lands and small town charm that Plentywood has to offer!
We hope to share more and more of our small ranch lifestyle with everyone!
